Trees hold us in their care. They provide the clean, crisp air our lungs depend on, offer shade that cools our summers, and shield us from the wind through fall and winter. Across Seattle, Trees and People Coalition brings people together to learn, to care for, and to grow the canopy that stands over us with quiet protection.
Our urban trees are disappearing fast, most of all in places where shade and clean air are already scarce. Together, we can change our interconnected future.

Inaugural Canopy Awards 2026
Trees and People Coalition held the first Canopy Awards on April 9, 2026. Trees and urban density can grow together. The awards honored Seattle architects, landscape designers, developers, community advocates and educators who have shown this in their work.
Orca Appeal
The Orca Appeal seeks to protect the public right to defend Seattle’s environment and our most beloved endangered species – Southern Resident Orcas.
The Appeal was featured on the front page of the Seattle Times Opinion section on May 25. Read the article here. And please share widely!

How Urban Trees Help Us
- Trees give us oxygen to breathe while cleaning our air and water
- They improve physical and mental health
- They protect us from dangerous weather events (heat, storms, floods, and landslides)
- Trees protect us from climate change by taking in gas in the air (carbon dioxide, methane, etc.) and storing it in their bodies
- They provide a place to live for birds, animals, and bugs
- They give us beauty to admire
- Trees hold and embody human history
